Medical Techniques

At present, there are mainly 3 types of technically proven and safe methods of permanent hair removal. In these methods, the germs that are responsible for hair growth is permanently destroyed by inserting a fine probe in the hair follicle and passing current through it.
3 types of permanent hair removal techniques which are medically done are listed below:
  • Laser hair removal: In this method, a pulse of light destroys the hair follicle. It is best suitable for patients with darker hair and lighter skin. The reason for this is the pigment that gives hair its color, also known as melanin, absorbs the laser light. During the laser treatment, a person might experience discomfort that can either be mild or it can also give a feeling like your skin has been snapped out with a rubber band. This technique must be undergone several times. The amount of hair growth reduction varies for every person.
  • Intense Pulsed Light, also abbreviated as IPL. It involves technology that uses a high-powered, hand-held, computer controlled flash gun that delivers an intense and visible, pulse of light that has a very broad spectrum range. The resulting light targets the part of the body where the hairs have to be removed and are heated to destruction. IPL is almost similar to laser treatment, yet has few differences, that the laser uses light spectrum with a single wavelength while IPL uses a band wavelength.
  • Electrolysis: This process is a bit invasive since there might be needles piercing through the skin, to destroy the hair follicle. With the galvanic method, the hair follicle is destroyed by the use of the chemical. In the thermolytic process, the heat destroys the hair follicle due to extensive heat. The hair removal specialists often use a mild anesthetic to numb the area to ease out the pain.
